The Maltese hopeful is Janice Mangion with her powerful ballad Kewkba (Star).
Janice showed a keen interest in music at the age of 12 and as a result took up many singing and piano lessons. One of her first milestones came in 2007, when she joined the cast of the successful Maltese television show ‘L-Isfida’. In recent years she was a member of the ‘Animae Gospel Choir’ and managed to reach the finals of the famous Maltese ‘Konkors Kanzunetta Indipendenza’ where she finished 3rd.
At the end of 2016, Janice received the news that her entry reached the final of the ‘Malta Eurovision Song Contest’.
Her song Kewkba was written by Mark Scicluna and Emil Calleja Bayliss. It conveys a beautiful message which people can relate to, that there’s always someone looking for you whatever the situation, or the circumstance.
Janice wanted to sing her song fully in Maltese, which is the first time since the early nineties when each song had to be presented in both Maltese and English.
She finished second, missing the Grand Prix by only 452 televotes! Will she bring joy to the Maltese club?
